District Round-up 8/17/25

For a few days, my family traveled out of town, but on Friday, August 15th, I was back in the district, speaking to voters at the Perry County Fair at the table hosted by the Perry County Democratic Committee.

What’s on the minds and hearts of voters at the Perry County Fair?

“It’s the economy, Stupid.”

Born of an incompetent and tweeted tariff policy, prices for imported consumer goods are rising considerably. For some voters, it sneaks up on them until a much higher grocery bill catches their attention. For others there are expected increases for goods, like coffee from Brazil.

As a member of Congress, I will fight for Everyday Americans by legislating a livable federal minimum wage, ensuring our social safety nets such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Medicaid, Medicare, WIC, and Social Security remain stable and solvent, and push for the ultra wealthy to pay their fair share in taxes. Everyday Americans like hard working families and retirees on a fixed income shouldn’t simply exist, but THRIVE. Moreover, the executive branch will be prevented from creating tariff policy by emotional social media posts.

Together, we can choose normalcy and #ChooseDemocracy .

Many thanks to Diane Bowman Shenk who took pictures of me at the fair.

On Saturday, Campaign Manager Jack Stansbury and I headed to Franklin County to their Peach Festival in Fort Loudon. It was a gorgeous, sunny day to see the immeasurable talent of local craftspeople and enjoy some local peach pie.

I petted a goat, tried some local granola , and bought a “life-changing” tomato.

If you ever feel stressed, M.A.C.C. Acres in McVeytown of Mifflin County offers “goat therapy” where you can pet small goats until all of your worries melt away.

All Things Granola of Franklin County sells cinnamon rolls and granola parfaits in addition to their selection of yummy granolas.

And Country Creek Produce, also of Franklin County, sells heirloom tomatoes in addition to other fresh produce. I look forward to trying mine.

Later, I had a chance to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation convoy as it drove through Chambersburg.

If you’re like me, you love this country as much as I do and work to make a positive difference. In the midst of this Constitutional Crisis, please consider reaching out to your local Democratic committees or Democratic candidates so that we can strengthen our Democracy instead of letting it slide into fascism.

We don’t just #ChooseDemocracy, we choose Pennsylvania, we choose The United States of America, we choose Humanity and I am deeply glad to work along side you.

Sincerely,

Beth
