District Round-up 9.7.25

Dear Neighbor,

Thank you for reading my District Round-up. As your candidate for Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District, it is my honor and pleasure to deliver to you where I’ve been and what issues I’ve tackled in the past week. Criss-crossing the counties of Adams, Franklin, Fulton, Bedford, Cambria, Blair, Huntingdon, Mifflin, Juniata, Perry, Cumberland, and Somerset gives me great opportunities to meet with voters, hear what is on your hearts and minds, and the chance to voice my fight for Everyday Americans. After a delicious breakfast at the 522 Grill in McConnellsburg, Fulton County on Sunday, I headed to the Hanover Chili Cook-Off in Hanover, PA.

Though technically, the cookoff happens in Pennsylvania’s 11th Congressional District, many Adams Countians and fellow Pennsylvanians attend this event, not only for delicious chili and good music, but because it is the largest chil cookoff east of the Mississippi River. Moreover, local businesses attend, including Plainville Farms in New Oxford, Adams County.

If you don’t know, Plainville Farms offers a variety of organic and non-organic Pre-sliced deli meat, bulk deli meat, ground turkey, turkey parts, whole turkeys, and pre-cooked whole turkeys. You can find out more about them on their website here: https://www.plainvillefarms.com/

The next day was Labor Day which I noted on Facebook:

Labor Day – Never underestimate the power of an organized people.

Prior to today’s celebration, “People of all ages, particularly the very poor and recent immigrants, often faced extremely unsafe working conditions, with insufficient access to fresh air, sanitary facilities and breaks.

As manufacturing increasingly supplanted agriculture as the wellspring of American employment, labor unions, which had first appeared in the late 18th century, grew more prominent and vocal. They began organizing strikes and rallies to protest poor conditions and compel employers to renegotiate hours and pay.” Labor Day 2025: Facts, Meaning & Founding | HISTORY https://share.google/mFLeIsGvkfaEaPPgF

Our current working conditions were borne on the backs of union members who fought for 40 hour workweeks, federal minimum wage, paid time off, and FMLA. The employers never granted these things out of benevolence for their workers. The union members organized and sacrificed.

There is still much work to be done. For example, workers should be guaranteed healthcare, not handcuffed to a particular job to ensure they don’t have to file for medical bankruptcy, our federal minimum wage should increase substantially since it was last raised in 2009 to $7.25/ hour, working families need guaranteed paid time for parental leave to ensure stability of their growing families who will contribute to American society later on, etc.

Please join your local union such as:

United Mine Workers of America

United Steelworkers

and fight for American worker rights.

I also attended the American Legion Fair in Ebensberg, Cambria County and listened to voters express what was on their hearts and minds. Thank you to the Cambria County Democratic Committee for hosting me at your booth!

On Wednesday, September 3rd, victims of Jeffrey Epstein and his crony, President Trump, gathered in front of the Capitol for a news conference and US Representatives urged Americans to call our US Representative to sign the petition that would force to the floor a vote on H.R. 581, the Epstein Files Transparency Act. As of today, our own Representative, multimillionaire John Joyce, has not signed it, but he has taken a picture of himself with President Trump.

Yesterday, I participated in the demonstration, held by Franklin County Democratic Committee in Shippensburg, Cumberland County for Democracy. It was a beautiful day and I was proud to stand with my fellow patriots against fascism.

Together, we #ChooseDemocracy!

If you’re like me, you love this country as much as I do and work to make a positive difference. In the midst of this Constitutional Crisis, please consider reaching out to your local Democratic committees or Democratic candidates so that we can strengthen our Democracy instead of letting it slide into fascism.

We don’t just #ChooseDemocracy, we choose Pennsylvania, we choose The United States of America, we choose Humanity and I am deeply glad to work along side you.

Sincerely,

Beth
