As your candidate for Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District, it is my honor and pleasure to deliver to you where I’ve been and what issues I’ve tackled in the past week. This past week has been especially difficult as the Trump administration and the Republican-controlled Congress have attacked the norms of our Democracy from a variety of angles. And yet, our US Representative, multimillionaire John Joyce, said nothing, condoning every rotten action Trump and his cronies took.
On September 29th, the sitting US president posted a racist, AI-generated video on social media which depicted Minority Leader of the US House of Representative Hakeem Jeffries wearing a cartoon sombrero and mustache and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Shumer falsely stating, “There’s no way to sugarcoat it. Nobody likes Democrats anymore. We have no voters left because of all of our woke trans bullshit.”
And Representative John Joyce said nothing.
On September 30th, Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, rendered vulnerable our leadership by forcing them to gather in one place that was publicly announced to the world, then compelled them to listen to Trump state, “…we should use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military — National Guard, but our military,…”. In other words, the sitting US President suggested that US Military should be turned against innocent American People in any city he arbitrarily declares as “dangerous”.
And Representative John Joyce said nothing.
On October 1st, the first day of the government shutdown, Trump canceled climate funding to mostly blue states and withheld billions of dollars from New York City infrastructure projects, as he had previously threatened to cut funding to “Democratic agencies” in a memo about the impending shutdown the week before. He repeatedly also threatened mass firings of federal employees.
And Representative John Joyce said nothing.
On October 4th, it was announced that the Trump administration was considering carrying out a flashy arrest and “perp walk” of former FBI Director, James Comey, as a follow-up to his sham indictment by Trump’s Department of Justice.
And Representative John Joyce said nothing.
Trumpian lackey, Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, has still not sworn in newly-elected Democrat Adelita Grijalva (AZ) for no stated reason, but claims he will on October 7th. When sworn in, Representative-elect Grijalva is expected to be the last US Representative to sign the discharge petition to force a vote on legislation to release the purported Epstein Files.
And Representative John Joyce says nothing.
But all week, members of Congress have been lying to the American People, claiming that the Democrats want to extend Covid-era ACA subsidies for healthcare premiums because it extends healthcare to “illegal immigrants.” Immigrants who are “lawfully present” may receive ACA healthcare insurance under some circumstances, but the Democrats are holding the line for this line to be included in the federal budget because the doubling of ACA premiums without their valiant efforts would negatively impact millions of American citizens.
Representative John Joyce finally did say something – he doubled down on this lie.
“Senate Democrats chose to hold the federal government hostage in exchange for a massive $1.5 trillion spending package that would fund far-left priorities like foreign climate projects and free healthcare for illegal immigrants.”
Meanwhile, I try to meet voters in our beautiful 13th Congressional District.
Yesterday was another gorgeous day for listening to voters from all political parties who are deeply concerned about the erosion of our precious Democracy, our rising cost of living, and threats to their jobs.
Voters in Perry County understand that the Trump administration is actively harmful for our country. Many thanks to Melanie Wertz and Jack Stansbury for manning the tent with me.
And last night, I had the pleasure of speaking to the Somerset County Democratic Committee about the atrocities of the Trump administration and how we fight it. Thank you to Campaign Manager Jack Stansbury who took the photos and traveled with me.
