As your candidate for Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District, it is my honor and pleasure to deliver to you where I’ve been and what issues I’ve tackled in the past week. “We had come home from church when we heard the news about Pearl Harbor.”
I don’t know how long the services ran at my grandmother’s church or if she had stayed late, but the news about Pearl Harbor was not made public until around 2:30 in the afternoon EST, 84 years ago today.
Nonetheless, that fateful Sunday spurred the Greatest Generation, including my paternal grandfather, Captain Wesley Yeo Clement, to action.
No longer would America be a passive observer during World War II, she would supply millions of troops who, along with trusted Allies, conquered fascism and imperialism in the name of DEMOCRACY.
Earlier this month, however, the Trump administration released its National Security Strategy (NSS) which criticizes US allies in Europe and asserts a terrible ideology of “America First” – the same ideology of American Nazi sympathizers in the America First Committee who had the good sense to disband after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
Yet, just before this world-changing anniversary, Trump’s NSS downplayed the threat of Russia to our most trusted allied European countries and pushed them to align with more Nazi-adjacent “values” if they want to keep the relationship with America they’ve had for the past 80 years.
“It characterizes the European Union in adversarial terms, claiming the body has undermined ‘political liberty’ and ‘sovereignty.’ Particularly worrisome for Europeans is the endorsement of far-right (‘patriotic’) parties and the stated goal to ‘cultivate resistance… within European nations.’ This will be perceived by European allies as an unacceptable attempt to meddle in their internal affairs. If the test for a good European ally is the extent to which it aligns with the nationalist conservative values of the Trump administration, as this NSS suggests, this does not bode well for the future of the transatlantic relationship. Not only does this new strategy mark the end of the transatlantic alliance based on liberal values, but also a reorientation towards an alliance of illiberals.”
In other words, the Trump administration looks to upend all progress and stability that the United States and Europe have known since the end of World War II. My grandfather, along with his fellow airmen, died occupying Germany so fascism would never rise again there, much less here. This betrayal of the Greatest Generation is so very shocking, many haven’t even given voice to it, especially as it comes on the heels of Pete Hegseth directing war crimes at the behest of the Trump administration.
Additionally, Trump’s NSS inflated the threat of other countries in the Western hemisphere, castigating migration from those countries as “hostile foreign incursion.” In other words, if the Trump administration can fabricate an excuse to engage in war that duped Americans will believe, then he pretends he can have his Truman moment and televise a false brawn that his previous draft-dodging can’t undo.
But fabricating war is exactly contrary to the strength and stability of this nation.
America has had 80 years of relative peace because, until now, our neighbors, family, coworkers, and fellow congregants did not fall for the claptrap of white Christian nationalism.
Of course, our own US Representative, multimillionaire John Joyce, goes right along with the Trump administration’s perfidy to the sacrifices of the Greatest Generation. He has no compunction that Trump will ruin our relationships with real allies and render America, and European democracies, weak to our adversaries. That slobbering sycophant is simply waiting for favor from Trump, not our approval as our representative.
Please vote him out of Congress on November 3rd, and please vote for me, Beth Farnham, to represent our 13th Congressional District because I love my country and value not only the diverse people within, but our relationships with trusted allies that our ancestors built nearly a century ago.
May the sacrifices of the Greatest Generation not have been in vain.

The much-touted Farm Bridge Assistance Program was released this past week, but it wouldn’t be necessary if the Trump administration hadn’t wreaked havoc with our agricultural workers and trade partners. Now farmers can have some government handouts instead of earning profits like they did under sane Democratic leadership.
While we try to understand yesterday’s senseless tragedy at Brown University, let us not forget that this is not an isolated incident.
In fact, in the last 72 hours in AMERICA, 52 victims and 16 suspects died of gun violence, while an additional 119 victims and 12 suspects were injured by gun violence. Gun Violence Archive – Last 72 hours
Out of countries considered “high income,” the United States’ gun homicide rate is TWENTY-SIX TIMES that of those similar countries. The US Gun Homicide Rate is 26 times that of High-income Countries
Gun violence is so prevalent in America, it is the leading cause of death for US children. Firearms Remain Leading Cause of Death for Children and Teens
In those other countries, what has made the difference?
Sensible gun ownership known as Gun Safety.
