District Round-up 07.12.26
Dear Neighbor, Thank you for reading my District Round-up. As your candidate for Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District, it is my honor and pleasure to deliver to you where I’ve been and what issues I’ve tackled in the past week. Criss-crossing the counties of Adams, Franklin, Fulton, Bedford, Cambria, Blair, Huntingdon, Mifflin, Juniata, Perry, Cumberland, and Somerset gives me great opportunities to meet with voters, hear what is on your hearts and minds, and the chance to voice my fight for Everyday Americans. A Conservative Couple Discovers The Painful Truth of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act

After I patiently explained to the older couple at Greencastle Sidewalk Days that we in the 13th Congressional District rely heavily on the cheap labor of undocumented immigrants for our agriculture and for paying federal, state, local, and sales taxes, they switched tactics.
“But illegals get Medicaid. Our own (adult) daughter can’t get Medicaid.”
“Maybe your daughter collects an income?” I suggested. “Social Security, perhaps? If your daughter has income, she might not meet the threshold of poverty to qualify for Medicaid, in which case she might be able to get Affordable Care Act healthcare known as Pennie in Pennsylvania. Of course, my opponent, our own US Representative, multimillionaire John Joyce, voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act which ended COVID era subsidies and caused the monthly premiums to go up,” I offered.
A gleam filled the lady’s eye. She recognized the truth of what I had described.
“That’s it. My daughter got a job in December, not that it paid well, but she qualified for Pennie which was $40 a month. But then it jumped to $1000. I said she hadn’t read that right, but she had. She can’t afford it.”
I was aware that the average increase to Pennie premiums was hundreds of dollars. Of course, average meant that some were below and some were above. This was one of the ones that was way, way above.
As is the case of so many Americans without health insurance, the story didn’t end there.
Not too long ago, as the result of severe negligence on the part of a neighbor, the daughter suffered an extreme health crisis. An unnamed hospital attended to her. Despite a lawyer being involved, the neighbor skipped town and became untraceable.
And so, the heartbroken mother told me, the sheriff was dispatched to the daughter’s home to inventory her stuff so it could be sold to begin to pay back the hospital’s overdue bills.
This was their pain.
But adding insult to injury, not only was their daughter struggling, right wing media was telling them six ways from Sunday that undocumented immigrants were getting benefits their daughter couldn’t. I explained that Medicaid to hospitals was not going directly to the beneficiaries. Shucks it wasn’t even going to prophylactic care. The fact is, hospitals are required to take anybody who comes through the emergency room and those who don’t have the health insurance Medicaid picks up the tab for the emergency services that day, but not more.
I feel confident these caring parents did not vote for me in the past. But the thing is, they are finding out John Joyce’s votes don’t work in the family’s favor. It’s sad they didn’t realize the negative impact of their votes.
So they went away quietly. Maybe they’ll vote for me on November 3rd. If they do, their voices will be heard.
No matter what, I fight for the policies that affect us, including healthcare for all.
Thank you Team Member Deb for setting up and tearing down the tent, as well as Claire for greeting voters and taking pictures.)

PA-13 Residents Can’t Afford Increases to Pennie Healthcare Premiums So They Drop the Healthcare Altogether

In the past several months, over 8 thousand PA-13 constituents have dropped their Pennie (Affordable Care Act) insurance and most have not picked up an alternative one.
Why?
Because, “Pennie claimed that several have said the decision to keep or drop their coverage is not a matter of choosing a different plan, but choosing between coverage and affording food, rent, and utilities.”
That’s right, because the cost of living is rising too, so there’s nowhere else to fund the higher cost of healthcare from the household budget.
Why else?
Because our own US Representative, multimillionaire John Joyce, voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that removed the COVID era subsidies that once made Pennie affordable.
But we don’t have to put up with this nonsense.
Ultra-wealthy people can pay their fair share in taxes so Everyday Americans can have the dignity of their healthcare needs being met.
I, Beth Farnham, will vote in the US House of Representatives, along with other caring legislators for a national healthcare plan that provides healthcare for All.
Please vote for me in November because when you choose Beth Farnham, you #ChooseDemocracy and the good health of our neighbors.
When Will the People in the Epstein Files Be Platnered?
As a reminder, I posted this in October.

And I never waivered from that position. People who have Nazi tattoos are not known for defending human rights.

When will the ultra-wealthy and big political backers stop seeing alleged, adjudicated, and convicted rapists as “leaders”??
Like the people in the Epstein files, Graham Platner is unfit to serve.
I’m sad it took this many victims to share their painful truth before the ultra-wealthy and big political backers rescinded their endorsements.
Even my dog is overcome with disbelief that this keeps happening.
Team Beth Farnham for Congress volunteers are AMAZING!!

First, thank you so much to Team Member Eileen and the volunteers in Blair County who marched in the Bellwood parade on Saturday! Since I couldn’t be in two places at once, these dedicated volunteers were able to represent the campaign and help voters there know about our fight for Democracy.
Second, thank you to volunteers Angie, Chris, Campaign Manager Jack Stansbury, and Team Members Sue and Claire for setting up the tent, tearing down the tent, speaking to voters, and taking pictures at the Snacktown Street Fair on Saturday. Even though Hanover is not in our district, it’s 5 minutes away from Adams County and is a big shopping district for us.
I even got to speak at the York Dems tent with fellow Congressional candidate, Nancy Mannion, who is running an awesome campaign in our 11th Congressional District.
The crowds were fantastic and we had many conversations with all kinds of voters. Because my team and I care about having these important conversations, even with those who don’t always agree with us, conservative voters sometimes come back to speak and to listen.
Today, I spoke to a person who is estranged from their adult child because the parent is pro-Trump. The parent is clearly hurting and wants to try to understand where their anti Trump child is coming from. They politely listened to some of my views. I offered the parent my brochure, recommended that they tell their adult child about my campaign, and possibly use my website as a starting point of discussion if the child’s views aligned with mine. The parent kindly took the brochure stating that they would keep an open mind and I really hope that they can find some connection.
It was a great day overall for voters and neighbors to come together for a community event.
Together, we #ChooseDemocracy and snacks!

Heartfelt Letter Shared

Regarding Reproductive Freedom from one PA-13 voter to another (permission granted to post).
Thanks for attending [xyz] event to meet US 13 Th district candidate Beth Farnham. I realize and respect your position on the abortion issue. My only child is adopted and both of my dear grand[children] are a result of IVF. So I fully understand first hand and very personally that these blessings in our life would never have happened if my [child]’s 15 year old birth mother had chosen abortion.
In spite of all the above, my [spouse] and I as well as my adopted [child] understand the right of a woman to choose what is right for her own body and health. Donald Trump himself was all for choice until it was politically advantageous to change his position. I don’t think for one second that he truly and strongly believes that abortion is a great answer for black women who live in “ shit hole countries”. And I have little doubt of the likelihood that Trump himself has paid for ending the pregnancy of a paramour or 2. It all comes back to the total hypocrisy of the current Rep leadership. At the very least, this is to me, not a one size fits all issue. In places like Texas and elsewhere, it is an undeniable fact that women have died ( I’m not saying by droves) in hospital parking lots over refused medically necessary abortions when the unborn has had zero chance at survival- and if survived at a low level would be just the ones Trump would say “ nobody wants to see that” as he said of our seriously wounded military heroes.
So I pray and ask that you consider where in the broad sense your valuable vote should lie. I understand passionately that you intelligently and sincerely see and understand your position for good and decent cause. Do you feel that more harm is caused to this country including the women affected but the choice issue by supporting Beth as a break and check on the unbelievable pain and damage the Trump administration will cause if congress continues abdicating to his ransacking of our democracy? A vote for Joyce is a vote for silence and active support to continue the destruction. He and Scott Perry are the most pro Trump agenda voters in the PA delegation.
With the greatest respect for your position on this issue, I ask you to at least consider more than this one issue that is dear to you. If you simply can not, in good conscience vote for Beth, please just leave that part of your ballot blank or write in someone else. Either way, whatever you decide, I respect your decision and your intelligence and remain your friend. Your willingness to attend [xyz] event is sincerely appreciated.
No Relief in Sight

Everyday Americans will continue to suffer Trump’s incompetence until his supporters in Congress, like our US Representative, multimillionaire John Joyce, are voted out.
Please vote for me, Beth Farnham, on November 3rd so we can fire Trump and save our country.

Trump Isn’t a Beacon of Peace

This is just your friendly reminder that the current strikes in Iran and the Strait of Hormuz would not be ongoing if our own US Representative, multimillionaire John Joyce, had held Trump accountable for:
his role in the January 6th insurrection,
or
his s**ual a**ault crimes,
or
his cryptocurrency corruption,
or
his knocking down the East Wing of the White House without the proper paperwork, or
his illegal impoundment of congressionally-approved funds,
or
his illegal declaration of war in Iran,
or
his administration’s denial of due process to undocumented immigrants,
or
his unjustified persecution of his political enemies,
but no…
John Joyce reveres Trump to the nth degree.
I wonder what other crimes of Trump against human rights and constitutional law Joyce will support.
Of course, we can change this trajectory by voting Joyce out of office and voting for me, Beth Farnham, instead.
You’d better believe I will hold Trump accountable for his crimes.
So, please tell your neighbors about my campaign, donate, sign up to volunteer, and definitely VOTE FOR ME.
Because voting for me and other caring Democrats will not only save our country, but more likely bring about a real peace to the Middle East.

Charity of the Week!
Even though charitable donations will not meet the overwhelming need of food assistance and healthcare for lower income Americans, these charities are a stopgap until I am elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and can legislate helpful federal programs as well as prevent a rapacious president from illegally impounding the congressionally-approved funds for those programs.
Please donate to Dollar For UPMC Altoona, if you can.
“Patients who get hospital financial assistance report lower stress levels, better health, and improved food access. They pay off other bills and save for their future.“
“Medical debt doesn’t just affect a person’s credit score—it affects their health, housing stability, food security, and mental well-being. Financial assistance gives families breathing room to recover and rebuild. Patients tell us that once their hospital bills are cleared, they feel hope, relief, and the freedom to plan again—whether it’s returning to school, saving for a home, or simply sleeping through the night without fear.
And when hospitals deliver on their obligations, entire communities benefit. Resources stay in the local economy. Public trust increases. The healthcare system begins to work for the people it serves.”

Comparing and Contrasting Votes on Legislation

If you’re like me, you love this country as much as I do and work to make a positive difference. In the midst of this Constitutional Crisis, please consider reaching out to your local Democratic committees or Democratic candidates so that we can strengthen our Democracy instead of letting it slide into fascism. We don’t just #ChooseDemocracy, we choose Pennsylvania, we choose The United States of America, we choose Humanity and I am deeply glad to work along side you. Sincerely, Beth
