James Herriot Revisited
Many thanks to the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, the Bedford County Farm Bureau, and the Blair County Farm Bureau for hosting their wonderful Legislative Farm Tour today at Legacy Livestock Veterinary Services in Bedford County.
When we think of our food supply chain, we tend to mostly think of farmers, but veterinarians play a very important role. They’re the ones treating sick animals, making sure milk is withheld while an animal is medicated, or that meat is withheld during an outbreak. The veterinarians are the first to diagnose a public health concern, file it with the FDA, and ensure that zoonotic diseases don’t transmit to other animals or to us.
Dr. Jen Kauf and Dr. Mary Wright presented extensive information about the scope and impact of practices like theirs. I couldn’t help but recall passages of James Herriott’s “All Creatures Great and Small” series as they described driving to farms with their equipment in their truck to attend to large animals. They even hosted a tour of their facility where we saw specimens in jars.
If they could expand their facility, they would add another veterinarian and technician.
Later, members of the Farm Bureau shared the summaries of bills they would like Congress to pass, like THE FARM BILL, which is still hanging out there. I would pass it, mostly because it reduces costs to farmers for crop insurance, fuel blends, and interstate commerce.
I would also vote for G.T. Thompson’s “Securing Agriculture’s Workforce Act,” SB225 “Eminent Domain Compensation,” and H.R. 9474 “Local Foods for Healthy Schools Act 2026”
I really appreciate everything I learned.
After that, I spoke with some farmers and made a date to visit a farm.

A Pause for Progress in Bedford’s Parade
Many thanks to the Bedford County Chamber of Congress for hosting the America 250 Parade on Sunday.
It was a glorious afternoon to greet voters and march proudly for Democracy.
Thank you also to my volunteer, Barb, for marching with me, especially at the last minute date change due to weather.
A big thank you also to Eric and Jodie of Bedford Speedway who kindly gave Barb and me a lift back to our car after the end of the parade.
What a lovely neighborly gesture!
I am proud to call Bedford part of our 13th Congressional District.

The Brave and a Coward
In no surprise to anyone, our own U.S. Representative, multimillionaire John Joyce, silently approves of President Trump having sacrificed the safety of others, unbeknownst to them, to save himself.
Trump has never shown any courage – he dodged the draft five times during the Vietnam era, for example, claiming “bone spurs” , and absolutely willing for others to sacrfice themselves instead of himself.
Recently, he snuck off of Air Force One, letting others ride the plane he was assumed to be in, and not informing them of the threat.
“When US intelligence allegedly found a credible threat that Iran plotted to kill him last month, Trump left Air Force One in a catering truck, an episode first reported by the Washington Post and also by the New York Times. While the president was reportedly snuck out the side door of the plane, more than a hundred aides, officials and reporters were kept onboard to fly towards Britain, without being told there was a threat to their lives.
“It appears that the idea was we can reduce the danger to President Trump by offering up 100 or so people to be killed by the Iranians in his place,” said Steven Cash, executive director of the Steady State and a former CIA intelligence officer and senior adviser to the Department of Homeland Security’s intelligence branch.”
If you want to know what actual bravery looks like, I offer the declassified file of my grandfather, Captain Wesley Yeo Clement, who died, along with his fellow airmen, while occupying Germany in 1953. During WWII, he flew missions over Burma.
I never met him, but I know he did not sacrifice his life occupying Germany so fascism could rise in America. He studied law, intending to be a lawyer before he had to return to the Air Force to support his family, so I know Democracy was important to him.
May our fellow Americans #ChooseDemocracy like he did and vote against sycophantic Joyce!

Huntingdon Fair
Many thanks to the Huntingdon County Democrats for hosting a table for me to join at the Huntingdon County Fair on Wednesday.
It was a lovely day to speak with voters about the issues on their hearts and minds. Mostly, many voters are disgusted with Trump – his lies, his broken promises, his corruption, his incompetence.
The number of Independent and Republican voters who said they would vote for me was higher than I experienced the last time around.
I let them know that, unlike our own US Representative, multimillionaire John Joyce, I will hold Trump accountable for his crimes against humanity and Constitutional law. I also let them know that I will be holding Town Halls in the near future where they’ll be able to ask their questions and hear my answers. I appreciate that a number of them took my yard signs.
Please elect me, Beth Farnham, on November 3rd to represent us in US Congress.

Cambria Dems Picnic
Many thanks to the Cambria County Democratic Committee for inviting me to speak at their picnic today.
It was a lovely afternoon to connect with old friends and new, to talk about the issues that matter to us, to take action to promote Democratic candidates.

Good Trouble at Demstock
On Friday, I was horrified to learn that no woman was listed among the five speakers for the big Demstock dinner on Saturday and so, I posted about it.
“Are there really NO WOMEN SPEAKERS at Demstock? While the speakers listed are certainly worthy of our undivided attention, women deserve REPRESENTATION. We are over half of the population, the majority of the workforce of this party, and our voting rights and bodily agency are literally on the line AGAIN. Do better.”
While the Demstock committee assured me they had tried, I, and others, keenly felt the lack of representation. However…
The Demstock committee scrambled and brought in the fabulous Keir Bradford-Grey to speak on the issues that are important to us. Good trouble is worthwhile.
Thank you, Demstock, for including a woman speaker.
The rest of Demstock went swimmingly. I met so many wonderful people who care about rural Pennsylvanians, no matter the party.

Thank you Commissioner Neil Makhija for all you do for the people of Montgomery County!
Thank you Mayor Dwan B. Walker, Mayor of the YEAR, for all that you do for the people of Aliquippa and your inspirational speech!
I even met wonderful fellow candidate, Justin Wagner who is running for Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional District.
I also caught up with fellow candidates Caleb McCoy and John Zangari who are running for State House seats in our district.

Even though charitable donations will not meet the overwhelming need of food assistance and healthcare for lower income Americans, these charities are a stopgap until I am elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and can legislate helpful federal programs as well as prevent a rapacious president from illegally impounding the congressionally-approved funds for those programs.
