District Round-up 08.30.26
Dear Neighbor, Thank you for reading my District Round-up. As your candidate for Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District, it is my honor and pleasure to deliver to you where I’ve been and what issues I’ve tackled in the past week. Criss-crossing the counties of Adams, Franklin, Fulton, Bedford, Cambria, Blair, Huntingdon, Mifflin, Juniata, Perry, Cumberland, and Somerset gives me great opportunities to meet with voters, hear what is on your hearts and minds, and the chance to voice my fight for Everyday Americans. If you would like to contribute to my campaign, please donate here: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/beth-farnham-for-congress-1
Adams Dem Picnic

Many thanks to the Adams County Democratic Committee for inviting me to speak at our annual picnic.
It was a terrific afternoon with other Americans who care deeply about our country. I was proud to announce my recent endorsements and to name my family and volunteers who also support this campaign. Fellow candidates Kathleen Pratt (PA-91st) and Todd Crawley (PA-193rd), as well as Todd Eagan from the Voter Protection Program, gave great speeches.
But of course, the pièce de résistance was the speech from PA State Representative Malcolm Kenyatta who is also Vice Chair of the DNC. He inspired us with important context about the marchers who walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in 1965 during the Civil Rights movement. Despite the odds stacked against them, they won their fight for civil rights and equality anyway because of their perseverance.
Boneyard BBQ served delicious food and volunteer Joyce Zeppa-Sadler kindly baked our pink lemonade and blueberry muffin tops for the candidate cookie contest.

Our National Folly

“Let them race cars” is pretty much what Trump’s quote would be if he was Marie Antoinette.
Absolutely disgusting.
While Everyday Americans are struggling with the prices of gas in the tank, food on the table, healthcare, and housing, Trump is wasting millions of taxpayer dollars for security to race cars down the streets of Washington D.C.
Nevermind that Everyday Americans need those streets.
Nevermind that the business of the American people needs to continue.
Big Boy Trump wants fast cars.
And the John Joyces of Congress absolutely let him.
Vote him out by voting me in on November 3rd.
Together, we #ChooseDemocracy!
Food Pantries Struggle More!

Because hungry Pennsylvanians genuinely needed their SNAP benefits, but the One Big Beautiful Bill Act ended them, local food pantries try to serve more families.
Why?
Because Trump and his lackeys, like our own US Representative, multimillionaire John Joyce, don’t believe in feeding the hungry, helping the poor, healing the sick, or welcoming the stranger.
Oh sure, they’ll wave their Bibles around all day long, but we know them by their bitter fruits – starvation, malnutrition, disease transmission, and dead Americans at the hands of murderous masked agents of the state.
“Food banks and pantries say they expect demand for emergency food assistance to remain high as households adjust to changes in SNAP eligibility and rising food costs.”
Sidenote: SNAP benefits average $211 per person, per month.
Trump and the John Joyces of Congress are cruel people who only want to grift Everyday Americans out of their hard-earned dollars – see the ballroom, Grand Prix racing, and Trump coin, for example, and cut off services for those in need.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
You can vote for me, Beth Farnham, to represent us from our 13th Congressional District, instead of John Joyce.
I’ll work with other caring members of Congress to strengthen our social safety nets like SNAP, Pennie, Medicare, and Medicaid so that no American ever goes hungry or without access to healthcare. And our local food pantries won’t be overwhelmed, but available to help those in a pinch.
Together, we #ChooseDemocracy and EACH OTHER!

Bedford Dems Picnic

Many thanks to the Bedford County Democratic Committee for welcoming me to speak and eat at their potluck meeting on Tuesday.
It was great to connect with such a dedicated group of patriotic Americans who are energized to knock doors, make phone calls to voters, address postcards for my campaign, and more!
They were also a great comfort while we received the sad news that American legend and humanitarian Dolly Parton had passed away.
In other news, I participated in an informative farm tour in our absolutely stunning Congressional District. More to come!

Let’s Choose Each Other!

“…the deaths may even have been altogether fabricated by one of the Governor’s hopeful staffers,” Kennedy wrote on X.”
As if the death of an infant from measles wasn’t horrific enough, it’s utterly cruel and terrible that the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services would ever imply that Governor Josh Shapiro would ever fabricate the scenario. RIP measles victims.
And where is our own U.S. Representative, multimillionaire John Joyce, who wants everyone to know that he’s a retired dermatologist, in this awful turn of events?
Absolutely nowhere to be found.
He doesn’t care what RFK Jr. lies about. Any member of Trump’s administration is not to be questioned in his opinion, irresponsible rhetoric about the transmission of deadly disease be damned.
But you know I won’t hide from you.
In fact, I’ll have a Town Hall in Joyce’s backyard on October 4th at the AFSCME building.
Interested attendees MUST REGISTER.

I’ll tell you about our stunningly beautiful 13th Congressional District and answer your questions on A.I. Data Centers, SNAP, and so much more.

Claptrap

“so why not the lazy people get off their ass And get a job, then what need to worry about snap?”
“a 5 year old could be in kindergarten and the parents could do the minimum 20 hours a week.”
These are examples of comments and questions I am receiving on my recent post about Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) cuts, facilitated by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, voted for by our current US Representative, multimillionaire John Joyce.
In PA-13, over six thousand people are losing their SNAP food assistance that averages $211/month per person and over seventeen thousand people are losing their Medicaid, not because they committed fraud, but because the updates they must newly provide to these institutions are often outside of factors they can control – hours assigned, having a computer online, or transportation to where a computer is.
Interestingly enough, if a single adult works for the current federal minimum wage of $7.25/hour full-time for 40 hours for 52 weeks a year, that person would earn a gross income of $15,080.00.
That full-time income is actually below the level of poverty for a single person which is $15,960.00 in the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C..
This is why working Americans qualify for SNAP and Medicaid.
“About two-thirds of working Medicaid enrollees and more than 70 percent of working SNAP recipients worked full-time schedules for at least part of 2024. Specifically, 66.1 percent of wage-earning Medicaid enrollees and 71.3 percent of wage-earning SNAP recipients worked at least 35 hours per week.”
Furthermore, these workers are working in the private sector, earning these pitiful wages.
“Nearly 88 percent of wage-earning adults enrolled in Medicaid worked in the private sector, compared with about 81 percent of workers not enrolled in the program. Similarly, 87.3 percent of SNAP recipients who worked were employed in the private sector.”
Some of the worst employers?
Walmart and Amazon
“Walmart emerged repeatedly throughout the analysis. The retail giant ranked as the largest employer of working Medicaid enrollees in Georgia, Indiana, and Oklahoma and was among the leading employers in Rhode Island and Maine. Walmart also topped the list of employers of SNAP recipients in Arkansas and ranked near the top in Georgia.
Amazon also appeared frequently, ranking among the largest employers of Medicaid enrollees in Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, and Rhode Island. The company likewise appeared near the top of employer lists for SNAP recipients in Georgia and Arkansas.
Other companies frequently identified included Dollar General, Dollar Tree, McDonald’s, Kroger, FedEx, Target, CVS, Home Depot, and Walgreens. The report also highlighted food-service chains such as Waffle House, Burger King, Wendy’s, and Taco Bell, along with staffing firms and health care organizations.”
And if they only work 20 hours, as suggested by the second commenter, even at twice the hourly wage, they are still below the poverty level.
Working families are SUFFERING.
But conservative news media will fool Everyday Americans into thinking they’re footing unnecessary spending when the ultra-wealthy need to pay their fair share of taxes instead of getting those taxcuts they got from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
Stop falling for their claptrap.
Vote for me, Beth Farnham, into our US Congress on November 3rd, so that I, along with other caring legislators, can raise the federal minimum wage to a liveable one and protect the social safety net of food assistance, institute a national healthcare plan, and MAKE THE ULTRA-WEALTHY pay their fair share of taxes.
Together, we #ChooseDemocracy and WORKING FAMILIES!

Charity of the Week!
Even though charitable donations will not meet the overwhelming need of food assistance and healthcare for lower income Americans, these charities are a stopgap until I am elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and can legislate helpful federal programs as well as prevent a rapacious president from illegally impounding the congressionally-approved funds for those programs.

If you’re like me, you love this country as much as I do and work to make a positive difference. In the midst of this Constitutional Crisis, please consider reaching out to your county Democratic committee or Democratic candidates so that we can strengthen our Democracy instead of letting it slide into fascism.
